Job summary

Senior Business Intelligence Analyst, Band 7 Permanent - full time - 37.5 hours per week

An opportunity has arisen to work within Adult Acute & Crisis Mental Health management team as a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst. This role is a key part of the business office team and supports the Directorate Management Team and Business & Performance Lead in the delivery of all aspects of the core business of the directorate. The role has a high focus on delivering performance data to enable the monitoring and reporting on key local and Trust indicators and has responsibility for the line management of staff within the Business Office. The role will require you to utilise a range of management information, tools and techniques to support and improve the business planning process and to meet strategic and service priorities. We strongly believe that communicating with clinical teams is key, and as such you will be an excellent verbal and written communicator and keen to work with teams face to face to support service improvement. You will require excellent excel skills, and will be able to prepare, interpret and present performance information accurately and clearly.

Main duties of the job

  • To utilise a range of management information, tools and techniques to support/improve the business planning process and to meet strategic and service priorities.
  • To monitor and report on key local and Trust-wide performance indicators.
  • To support with service improvements within the A&C MH directorate and support the Business and Service Improvement Manager on Directorate & Trust-wide initiatives.
  • Lead in the regular undertaking of detailed and complex data & information work-streams including production of regular and ad-hoc reports, audits and surveys and establishing new work-streams, where required to address data quality and performance activity issues.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will:

  • Provide accurate analysis of efficiency and productivity for regular and ad-hoc reports. This involves generating, manipulating and formulating data into clear, concise reports which are adjusted to the needs of the recipients from highly complex to simple reports.
  • Investigate and analyse highly complex data with multiple sensitive outcomes to present new ways to improve performance, efficiency and productivity such as managing and reducing waiting times, reducing unplanned emergency admissions, cash efficiency release savings, etc.
  • Design and update complex information reports and dashboards for metrics and KPIs for services across the Acute & Crisis Directorate. This includes setting up reporting mechanisms to capture the relevant data as required.
  • Oversee and carry out business and data analysis of complex business problems within the Directorate and provide technical advice as to potential solutions for clinical and non-clinical teams.
  • Undertake expert business data analysis of the Directorate performance and improvement using recognized demand and capacity modelling tools, frameworks, methods and techniques.
  • Set up an effective system for the Business and Performance Office that controls the maintenance, development and implementation of standard operation procedures (SOPs) for data validation and analysis. This includes aligning the SOPS to the existing performance reporting processes and procedures from Informatics, Finance, Quality and Workforce.
  • Implement systems for the continuous review of the data to ensure the Directorate maximizes all of their opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and quality of its services.
  • Implement systems for services to adopt and embed accuracy standards for automated and manual data entry, including setting guidelines and reporting templates as required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and innovation and provide input to the business improvement across the Directorate. This includes the development and implementation of new and innovative ways of working according to the Trusts and national programmes for the Directorate services.
  • Ensures that business analysis and reports meet agreed service levels and specifications, legislative, regulatory compliance requirements, and that appropriate action is taken to resolve any anomalies found within the reports produced.
  • Ensure that all reports produced meet agreed quality control and are delivered within scheduled timetable and deadlines. This includes routine, regular, ad-hoc and/or new reporting requests.
  • Oversees the delivery of routine and ad-hoc office business tasks as per relevant deadlines. This includes supporting and aligning the team efforts to meet existing and new business needs, and be the point of escalation for all data queries so that these are dealt with promptly and efficiently.
  • Provide business analysis for demand and capacity to on-going and new services and projects for the Directorate. This includes assessing existing capacity to develop operational plans and forecasts based on future plans for demand.
  • Apply business analysis to the development, execution and improvement of action plans by providing advice and guidance to the Information Analysts and service managers in the application of information and best practices to improve efficiency and innovation.
  • Support identification and management of risks, and liaises with the team for the relevant update and compliance for the updating of the Directorate risk register.
  • Provides relevant data for business cases to ensure that these meet benefits criteria, are financially viable and have sound management case.
  • As directed by line manager run/participate in projects according to project scope. This includes producing required project data and analysis to support project plans and documentation.
  • Stay current with services needs for data analysis and presentation; using formal and informal written and verbal communication methods (PowerPoint presentations, executive updates, task lists, etc.) to communicate updates and findings of analysis as required
  • Provide instructions and guidance for the handling of sensitive information relating to staff and patient data, including security (compliance with GDPR and UK Data Protection) and backup strategies.
