Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the London Borough of Greenwich. We are looking for a highly skilled, motivated and committed Highly Specialist Clinician to join the newly openedpurpose designedshort-termresidential-based service focussed on improving stability and outcomes for children and young people aged 11-17; and play an important role in delivering this new and innovative service directly improving outcomes for children, young people and families.

This new service, called the Adolescent Assessment Residential and Resource Centre (the AARRC), will deliver a multi-disciplinary service to children and young people who are either in or 'at risk' of entering the care system (and where appropriate to their families and their wider support network).

The AARRC Mental Health Practitioner role is responsible for providing a service to children and young people engaged with the AARRC. This is a new and developing service with an opportunity to shape the clinical offer in partnership with CAMHS and RBG Children's Services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside a Highly Specialist Clinician also based at the AARRC to provide initial assessment and time-limited stabilisation work with evidence-based psychoeducation, time-limited evidence-based intervention and family consultation. This would be available for a maximum shared caseload of 12 young people at any one time, including up to six placed within the AARRC plus those being supported through outreach work in the community. They will also lead the delivery of training to the wider AARRC staff, as well as offering professional consultation and weekly reflective practice to the residential team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To be trained and confident in the use of CYP IAPT principles, evidence based interventions and routine outcome measures.
  • To work with a defined caseload of children and young people who are engaged with the AARRC, either residing in the centre itself or being supported through outreach work in the community.
  • To co-ordinate and deliver individualised care packages / programmes for children and young people and evaluate these programmes, ensuring high standards of practice in accordance with national guidelines and trust policy.
  • To provide specialist mental health advice, consultation and signposting using an outcome based triage model, to school based and community staff e.g. Health Visitors, G.Ps.
  • To provide training and professional consultation to the wider AARRC workforce as well as school based and community staff e.g. Health Visitors, G.Ps where appropriate.
  • To facilitate reflective practice for the wider AARRC workforce.
  • To contribute to the Early Help and prevention service within Greenwich, focussing on parents with ill health, substance misuse or domestic violence.
  • To be aware of and take a role in the CYP Directorate participation programme.
  • Train and mentor students and less experienced members of the discipline.
  • To engage therapeutically with clients and their carers in a variety of settings as appropriate to the needs of the client and to be able to assess the risk of working in particular areas.

  • To be able to assess and manage risk in children and young people and to do this on an on-going basis within the role as care co-ordinator.

  • To act as an autonomous practitioner with an understanding of own limitations and recognition of when to seek support.
  • To contribute to overall service delivery and development, with a particular focus on the CAMHS care pathway, as required.
  • To work closely with the school based and community health professionals, carrying out joint assessments when appropriate.
