Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to recruit an experienced and resourceful Behaviour Change Worker to work within the Oxleas Interventions Service.

The post holder will develop and deliver all aspects of the Behaviour Change programme within Oxleas Interventions. This will include delivery of groups and 1-1 sessions around gang behaviour and serious group offending as well as addressing the behaviour related to gang activities such as dealing.

The post holder will provide intensive individual mentoring to offenders in custody and on release and act as a specialist resource for issues relating to gangs, dealing and serious violence.

The post holder will be fully integrated and work as part of the Oxleas team and with other partners, to deliver high quality interventions that support individuals to achieve positive change and outcomes, recovery and reduced re-offending.

All posts are subject to DBS Disclosures, Home Office Security Clearance and receipt of satisfactory references.

  • Deliver 1-1 and group psychosocial interventions
  • Provide effective case management through assessment, planning, monitoring and review

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To coordinate key elements of the Behaviour Change programme: referrals; assessment; goal/priority setting, mentoring, group sessions, case coordination, monitoring and evaluation, including case studies.
  • To provide intensive support packages to programme participants both within custody and on release in the community, through key-working (advice, guidance, advocacy, signposting).
  • To provide lower intensity advice and information to programme participants through group and 1-2-1 sessions, within custody.
  • To coordinate a caseload of offenders who have a history of gang involvement, dealing and substance misuse.
  • To maintain clear criteria, referral, assessment and feedback systems for identified individuals on the caseload to participate in the programme
  • To undertake individual assessments to determine offenders suitability for the programme.
  • To develop and review individual action plans and goals focused on addressing offending behaviour.
  • To record and monitor information relevant to the services as required and in line with agreed procedures and guidelines and any statistical or management information required.
  • To ensure maximum attendance on the programme.
  • To organise and deliver a range of bespoke modular group sessions.
  • To support the effective transfer and engagement of individuals into appropriate community services and activities that support resettlement, including through transition/release planning
  • To identify potential conflict issues, and provide or signpost for basic mediation or conflict resolution work
  • To work with the prison to manage risk, sharing local intelligence and expertise where appropriate.
  • To provide flexible and creative interventions using evidence-based psychosocial approaches.
  • To work collaboratively and proactively with colleagues, peers and wider prison staff to achieve shared outcomes.
  • To share relevant information on action plans, progress, risk and needs, with Offender Management, CRCs, colleagues, other establishments, and community agencies, as relevant, to ensure safe, seamless and successful transitions.
  • To adopt a strengths-based approach to assessment and action planning, which identifies and builds on individuals skills, capital and needs.
  • To empower and challenge individuals to take opportunities to achieve sustainable change, promoting self-responsibility and resilience, using a strengths-based approach.
  • To fully involve participants in their care, through: consultation, collaborative action planning, discussing options, obtaining consent for information sharing, and obtaining feedback.
  • To develop individuals to become peer mentors, to support others.
  • To attend multi-agency meetings in the interests of clients as required
