The post holder will work as part of the integrated healthcare services in HMP Wandsworth
The Substance Misuse Service (SMS) provides assessment and clinical treatment for prisoners with drug and alcohol addiction mainly through opioids substitution treatment. We work with prisoners with mainly substance addiction who present with complex and challenging needs. We are currently seeking Band 5 Substance Misuse Nurse Practitioners to support our clinical interventions. Because of the integrated nature of the SMS, and since our patients present with complex physical and mental health needs in addition substance addiction, we are keen to recruit both RGNs and RMNs. Experience of working in secure environments or within a substance misuse setting is welcomed, but is not essential for this role; what is essential is a 'caring not judging' attitude and willingness to learn.
Main duties of the job
JOB PURPOSE
- To provide substance misuse support interventions to offenders. This will require liaison with prison and Serco senior managers and staff probation services, education staff, security personnel, and external NHS providers both in primary and secondary care, and visiting specialists when required.
- To support senior staff in the development of high quality substance misuse care through the effective assessment, development and implementation programmes. To assess care needs and provide high quality nursing care as a member of a multi-disciplinary team for offenders who have substance misuse clinical healthcare needs utilising the care planning and CPA processes and risk assessment & care planning.
- To maintain accurate, legible records of care provided based upon the CPA care plan process, incorporating relevant communication and liaison with other care providers and the wider prison establishment
- To promote the overall health and well being of the offender population using evidence based practice.
