Overview of the Post

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Lived Experience Practitioner in a newly developing Complex and Emotional Needs Service covering three London Boroughs - Bromley, Bexley and Greenwich . This service will be for those experiencing difficulties with emotional instability and relationships who need to be supported by a tier 3 service.

The purpose of this post is to work as part of an integrated team with Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust working with Complex Emotional Needs (CEN) clients and their carers. This role entails providing a coordinated approach within a multi-disciplinary team delivering individual and group-based interventions under Stepped Care. You will be expected to have significant experience of working with adults with mental health needs in the community and it would be desirable if you have experience of working with complex and emotional needs. Experience of working with individuals who have experienced trauma and clients with a diagnosis of personality disorder is essential.

The post holder will work from a basis of personal lived experience of having and recovering from mental health difficulties. The post holder will support CEN clients in their recovery, enable effective self-management, support personal development, and promote social inclusion.

Main duties of the job

Key Task and Responsibilities

Working from a basis of personal lived experience expertise, the post holder will:

  • Have a case load of clients and assist in the development of co-produced CEN clients care plans.
  • Provide 1:1 support to clients to attend appointments (e.g. GP), or community activities.
  • Work to care plans agreed by CEN clients and clinical staff using a level of autonomy in relation to the sharing of lived experience appropriate to the task.
  • Assist in the induction process of CEN Clients and carers to Oxleas services if required.
  • Share experiential knowledge of using well-being and condition self-management skills to support clinical recovery with CEN clients .
  • Support the personal development of service users by using goal setting by using tools like WRAP/ Recovery STAR and person-centred approaches to enable CEN clients to pursue life ambitions and support.
  • To facilitate the delivery of short term LXP interventions alongside MDT (Multi-Discipline Team ).
  • Promote social inclusion amongst CEN clients by providing information and support in accessing and engaging with mainstream organisations.
  • Provide information to clients on service user involvement and volunteering opportunities and assist in accessing them.
  • Work in a way that promotes a service culture sensitive to client and carer' needs, differences, difficulties; and that reflects the principles of mutually respectful relationships, engagement, recovery, and hope.

  • Be aware that this role can be personally stressful and involves hearing stories from CEN clients that may be disturbing and emotionally demanding; and have established effective self-management and coping techniques.
  • Have completed a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) within their pre-appointment training if necessary .
  • Where applicable, have completed a Reasonable Adjustments Plan or willingness to complete this with their team manager once in post.

  • Be aware of ones own level of responsibility and stress and use supervision to determine appropriate levels and manage these accordingly. Discuss any burdens, responsibilities and stresses that might arise during the course of working during regular supervision.
  • Assist managers in creating ones own reasonable adjustments plan where required.
  • Develop your own Healthy Work Plan (Wellness Recovery Action Plan)

  • Where applicable assist in data collection for evaluation and quality enhancement projects.
