Job summary
The post holder will have responsibility for a defined caseload and, working independently and autonomously within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures, will provide specialist individual, family and group psychological interventions. They will provide highly specialist advice, consultation supervision and training for other professionals, colleagues and trainees within the multidisciplinary team and the local Primary Care Trust. They will show evidence of commitment to continuing professional development and have the necessary specialist skills and experience to contribute to the ongoing development of the service.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
- To autonomously make decisions about specialist treatment options, carrying out detailed psychological assessments of clients with complex mental health needs. To assess, using techniques in semi-structured interviewing and observation, and taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group, clients' suitability in terms of psychological mindedness and willingness to engage in therapy.
- To independently plan and implement disorder specific CBT interventions by an integration of theoretical models and formal therapy interventions which are clearly theoretically delineated

Job responsibilities
Supervision, Consultation and Teaching
- To provide specialist consultation to psychologists, art therapists, nurses, social workers, doctors and other professions within the CMHT.
- To be involved in the pre and post qualification training of CMHT staff, and to provide specialist consultation, supervision and training to other professionals within the Primary Care Trust.
- To provide specialist training in group therapy to all disciplines within the CMHT and Primary Care Trust.
- To participate in regular clinical supervision with colleagues from the psychological therapies team and to seek out appropriate specialist supervision on an individual basis as needed.
- To continue to gain wider post-qualification training and experience over and above that provided within the principal service area where the post holder is employed.
Management, recruitment, policy and service development
- To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the
operational policies and services within the Psychological Therapies Team and the CMHT as required.
- To advise both service and professional management, through
discussion with the Team Leader, on those aspects of the service
where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing.
- To independently plan and implement clinical audits and evaluations
as required.
- To participate in any research, audit, Clinical Governance projects as
required.
Administration
- To actively manage a personal caseload.
- To maintain adequate written and electronic records of clinical
activity.
- To ensure timely production of relevant reports and clinical
correspondence as appropriate.
- To attend and participate in relevant team meetings as required.
IT Responsibilities
- To be proficient in the use if IT for email, Internet and Rio
purposes. To be familiar with word processing, data base and
statistical packages for complex data analysis as necessary. To use
appropriate computer software to develop and create clinical or other sevice-related reports and documents.
Professional
- To seek regular clinical supervision from colleagues and Team
Leader
- To seek specialist psychological therapy supervision from suitably
qualified professionals.
- To attend courses, workshops and conferences as appropriate in
order to continue with the development of professional skills and
Knowledge.
- To keep informed of current evidence-based practice developments.
- To maintain professional registration with own professional body
and to adhere to the code of conduct and ethical guidelines of that body.
