Job summary

The post holder will provide leadership and guidance on improving all aspects of the Safe Staffing agenda, creating an infrastructure that enables services to ensure that the right staff, with the right skills, are in the right place, at the right time.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring Oxleas is meeting regulatory standards in line with 'Developing workforce safeguards' (2018), by developing and supporting services to implement effective governance and best practice for staff deployment and workforce planning.

The post holder will provide strategic professional and visible senior nursing leader-ship across the trust, ensuring appropriate advice regarding Safer Staffing is provided to ensure consistency of implementation across the operational service directorates

The post holder will support the implementation of safe rostering practices across Oxleas bedded services. The post-holder will build upon their specialist knowledge and function as an expert professional leader within Safer Staffing.

Job responsibilities

Lead on delivering the Safe Staffing improvement plan by creating sustainable systems and governance processes that promotes compliance with national and statutory safe staffing standards.

Ensure all policies related to Safer Staffing are maintained and updated.

Lead on the implementation the trust rostering improvement project. This will include challenge the status quo with authority, to improve practice for the benefit of safe and supportive care.

Take the lead role for directorate engagement in the communication and implementation of new safe staffing practice.

Monitor safer staffing levels and skill mix with the services managers to ensure safe and supportive care. Lead on safer staffing reviews with the Director of Nursing.

Support the development of safe staffing best practice by identifying learning needs within the directorates to support.

Facilitate the development of Check and Challenge meetings within the directorates to enhance quality of rostering.

Review the biannual establishment review process for the bedded service and drive improvements through.

Maintain effective communication systems for staff working closely alongside the post holder and across the organisation.

To provide senior advice and support, to all multi professional disciplines, on Safer Staffing.

Explore other possible external sources to enable benchmarking with other Trusts. Be proficient in the use of Model Health System in order to undertake national benchmarking.

Plan and organise own workload by determining operational directorates requirements and balancing longer term projects and regular reporting with ad hoc and urgent information requests.

Ensure procedures are in place to meet target dates for regular statutory and Trust reports. Corroborate staffing levels by working with clinical/operational leads utilising the data sets and information available.

Support the interrogation of safe staffing reports before they are published on the trust website, identifying and investigating any issues the data may highlight.
