Main duties of the job
The post of QVH Microsurgery Fellow is for senior Plastic Surgery doctors who wish to refine their skills and gain subspecialty experience in breast microsurgery. This post offers high volume exposure to DIEPs and other free flap breast reconstructions, as circa 350 free flaps are performed at QVH each year for breast reconstruction. Our unit has a very high success rate with free tissue transfers, as well as the shortest length of stay in the UK, thanks to our enhanced recovery programme.
The post holder will be encouraged to develop their clinical skills and progress in the post, taking on increasingly complex cases independently, when appropriate. Fellows are expected to take responsibility for their own training and development,but we will strive to offer opportunities to further your knowledge and skills.
Duties include theatre sessions and clinics along with involvement in teaching and mentoring junior staff. The successful applicant will have a varied weekly clinical programme and we are keen for our microsurgery fellows to fully integrate into departmental life; we encourage audit, teaching and departmental service development. Each fellow will have regular meetings with their educational supervisor who will be available to discuss cases, debrief incidents and provide ongoing support to the post holder.
The post holder will predominately work at the Queen Victoria Hospital but may be required for peripheral Outpatient clinics.
