Perioperative Fellow Post
Queen Victoria Hospital are offering a perioperative fellow post for 12 months, or 6 months if can be attached to a 6-month SIA at QVH. This post would be suitable for a registrar during stage 3 of the curriculum who would like to experience and develop their perioperative medicine skills.
QVH anaesthetic department are in the early stages of ACSA application, with plenty of opportunities for the right candidate to be involved in pathway development, guideline writing, perioperative management, quality improvement and research. There will be plenty of opportunities to present work locally and nationally. We would support the fellow in being our resident ACSA lead, working with the department to progress our ACSA application.
There will be regular mentored sessions within our high-quality preoperative assessment, seeing patients for a range of surgeries including head and neck, dental, complex plastics and ophthalmology. The fellow will also be involved with the multidisciplinary team and shared decision-making clinics. With experience the fellow will be encouraged to practice consultant level independent clinics, with the support of department.
The fellow would be expected to participate in the registrar oncall rota (1 in 8), LTFT working will be supported. Pay will be in line with current resident pay scales.
Main duties of the job

The department has expertise in a number of areas including complex airway management, hypotensive anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia including the use of nerve catheters, total intravenous anaesthesia and sedation techniques.
QVH receives 7-8 ST5-7 anaesthetic trainees from the Kent, Surrey and Sussex, and South East Schools of Anaesthesia every six months, and is a very popular rotation. The clinical fellow will form part of this group of trainees. A well-established tutorial programme including a cadaveric regional anaesthesia course is provided alongside clinical teaching. Protected teaching time is provided for this. You will be allocated an educational supervisor for the duration of the fellowship.
The post will be of 6 - 12 months duration commencing August 2026. 12 months is preferable, as it enables projects to be developed, but candidates wishing for a six month post are welcome to apply. It is a suitable post for a post FRCA trainee (ST5 and above) wishing to take an OOPE, and for a post CCT trainee wishing to gain further clinical experience prior to a consultant appointment.About us
