Catering Manager Band 6
37.5 hours per week (Monday to Sunday 06.00- 14.00or 11.00-19.00 shift pattern)
The Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is an expert surgical Trust, specialising in Plastic Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery and Burns.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within The Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Catering Services. We are looking to appoint an individual who can demonstrate excellent day to day leadership and communications skills to manage Catering Services. A previous track record of successfully delivering a high standard of service provision and budgetary control within a catering environment is essential.
This role reports to the Head of Facilities and contributes to the strategic planning of Catering Services for The Queen Victoria Hospital Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will plan, organise and develop patient services within our Hospital.
Candidates should possess strong leadership skills and work to the highest standards of food safety and health and safety. The post includes assisting in implementing organisational change and workforce re-design, project management and service planning
Main duties of the job
- The Catering Manager is responsible for the management, coordination and the smooth day to day running of Catering facilities services, within the following key areas:
- Patient food preparation and delivery to Wards
- Retail food preparation and delivery to staff, patients and visitors
- Direct line management of staff and contracts associated with these services
- Provide cross-cover of Catering Facilities functions deputise for the Head of Facilities as and when required.
- Effectively co-ordinate, manage and work strategically to deliver the functions of the Catering department including developing and managing resources to support providing a reliable customer orientated service.
- Identify and anticipate changing demands on the service, developing and implementing plans to meet them and leading in the change management process.
- Support the Head of Facilities in reviewing the Catering management function, to create and implement a programme of reorganisation that will deliver improved patient focussed services.

- Responsible for the management of direct line reports for all HR issues including recruitment, selection, induction, appraisal annual leave management and disciplinary issues.
- Undertake monitoring of facilities activities such as the food service standards are achieved and where evident, implement action plans.
- Development staffing model and system to support Catering response
- To set clear objectives and monitor progress on a regular basis offering support and guidance where necessary for the department.
- Support the Head of Facilities & Security Management in developing long-term strategic Catering operational plans to implement organisational objectives for critical services.
- Manage staff grievances and disciplinary issues.
- Manage staff sickness absence, performance management, probationary periods, etc.
- Organise and undertake recruitment and selection of staff.
- To undertake annual appraisals for direct reports and ensure that the department is compliance with its annual appraisal target.
- Regular meetings with the Advisory team to review Facilities staff management and issue actions as necessary and monitor progress.
- To hold monthly Catering Staff team Forums to improve staff well-being/ satisfaction and address any issues highlighted by Catering staff members.
- To ensure all staff undertake annual mandatory training to ensure compliance
