Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join our Maxillofacial Outpatients Team. The post provides an opportunity to learn new skills and develop existing ones. The QVH is a tertiary referral centre for oral, Maxillofacial and oncology head and neck cancer and throat cancer.
We are looking for permanent staff, full time or part time to help support this busy, dedicated team. School hours will also be considered.
Clinics include a nurse led dressing clinic, daily trauma clinic, and minor oral surgery and the role will involve helping to run our busy teeth, ENT and head and neck oncology clinics.
The work is varied and can be demanding but is very rewarding.
Previous experience in Head & Neck is not essential, however experience with wounds and removal of sutures and clips is essential.
The Maxillofacial Department is based in our Main Outpatient building and operates under the working hours of 8:30 - 17:00.
Main duties of the job
Work as part of a team to provide a safe, effective, efficient care to all our patients and their carers. This includes running 'nurse led' dressing clinics, assisting in Minor Oral Surgery and trauma clinic and being part of the wider multi disciplinary team which includes Speech and language therapy dietitian and McMillan CNS.
Maintain the privacy and dignity of all patients whilst adhering to Trust and department policies, reporting any difficulties with these duties to senior staff.
Maintain a safe environment when caring for patients, including those patients requiring frequent levels of monitoring.
Monitor all patient care and treatment, maintaining high standards and quality at all times.
Prioritise nursing care, recognise deterioration in a patient's condition and alert senior staff immediately.
Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and legible written records of care.
Use effective communication, written and verbal with all levels of staff including the multidisciplinary team, patients and relatives.
Adhere to the agreed procedures as identified, and promotes by example, a high standard of good quality nursing care in the department.
Participate in the health education and explanation of treatment to patients and relatives.
