We are recruiting for a Clinical Sister/Charge Nurse who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering a diagnostic and therapy service to both inpatients and outpatients.

They will use phlebotomy skills to administer radioactive isotopes to patients in a safe and effective manner that is in accordance with IRR and IR(ME)R regulations i.e. safe handling and administration of radiopharmaceuticals according to local rules.

They will work as part of a small group of nursing staff and will need to demonstrate professionalism towards patients, relatives and staff alike and also demonstrate enthusiasm to develop in their new role.

They will need to demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm for research/evidence-based practice, audit and educational practice in the clinical area.

The service is expanding to include new studies/treatments including joint services with other hospitals; the post holder will be expected to undertake any training needs to deliver this service in a safe and professional manner.

Currently the service operates from 07:15 - 16:30hrs Monday-Friday.

Nuclear Medicine is an area of imaging that looks at physiological changes in the body. The nursing role includes the safe handling and administration of radioactive isotopes to adults and children.

This is both an inpatient and outpatient service and we also have a cancer treatment service for thyroid cancers, and Lutetium therapy for neuroendocrine tumours.

We are a small nursing group with a varied multidisciplinary team which work closely together to give the best patient care/experience.

We currently carry out around 40 different studies, and see approximately 8000 patients a year.

The post holder would require some knowledge of studies carried out in Nuclear Medicine, in-house training available to increase knowledge of varied investigations.

They would require essential cannulation skills.

They would also have to be competent in the safe handling and administration of radiopharmaceuticals and possess an understanding of legislative requirements surrounding the use of ionising radiation.

They would be responsible for ensuring all personal/mandatory training needs are up to date and will be supported in any personal development within their role that they would like to pursue towards revalidation.

Paediatric experience would be desirable but not essential.
