Main duties of the job
Point-of-Care Testing (PoCT) is analytical testing that is performed near or at the site of a patient with the result leading to possible change in the treatment of the patient. Medway NHS Foundation Trust's Diagnostic and Therapies Care Group is responsible for the service.
This will include specific responsibilities for maintaining specialised PoCT equipment, trouble shooting, reagent management, documentation, performance of internal quality control, administration of external quality assessment programmes, delivering and organising training, audits and supporting service users and adherence to the appropriate infection control polices.
To work in a bespoke rapid testing facility, located in our busy Emergency Department. To perform a variety of rapid molecular based tests which assist clinicians to correctly cohort patients and improve patient flow.

Participate in a 24/7 shift pattern to perform molecular testing using rapid testing platforms
Document and communicate patient results both via telephone and electronically using the Pathology Laboratorty Informaion Sytem (LIMS) and EPR Sunrise
Use knowledge and skills to troubleshoot equipment and minimise service downtime.
To undertake general house-keeping as specified in the SOPs including environmental monitoring, temperature monitoring and batch acceptance testing.
To be involved in the verification of new equipment and support the PoCT team.

- Minimum of 5 GCSE's including English Language, Mathematics and a science subject at Grade 4 or above
- Relevant NVQ level 3 plus additional theoretical and applied training to level 4 diploma equivalent level.
Desirable
- Biomedical Science, or other Science Degree 2.2 or above
Knowledge
Essential
- Basic knowledge of laboratory processes and sample testing
- Knowledge of medical, and laboratory terminology
- Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and procedures within a clinical laboratory
Experience

- Experience in providing clinical or technical services to patients/clients e.g. working within Pathology or in a clinical environment providing standard diagnostic tests.
