Main duties of the job

Do you have passion, and enthusiasm and an interest in a career in Operating Theatres?

Are you self-motivated and enjoy working as part of a team with good communication skills and motivation to provide the best of care for our patients?

If so, we would like you to join our team within the Surgery and Anaesthetics division.

As a Theatre Assistant Practitioner, you will be required to work with a team of people to deliver perioperative care to our patients. You will be required to work closely within the multidisciplinary team of Nurses, ODP's, Doctors and Anaesthetists.

You will learn new skills and be adaptable to different situations on a daily basis. As part of the team, you will have the opportunity to advance your career through the Trust's apprenticeship program.

To play an active role within the theatre team, supporting the scrub practitioner and undertaking circulating duties. Maintaining patient safety whilst in theatre and adhering to the WHO surgical safety checklist.

Assist the anaesthetic practitioner in providing safe care in the anaesthetic room, ensuring that the patient experience is positive.

Act as the patients advocate.

As directed, to record routine observations of blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate and blood glucose when needed. Report any abnormalities and concerns to a registered nurse

Recognise when patients are in pain and discomfort and report to the nurse in charge

Provide reassurance and support to patients, carers and family

Ensure own actions help to maintain quality

To respond to patient requests for non-clinical information to improve communication

Establish and maintain communication with people on routine and operational matters

To act always in a manner which promotes positive working relationships and maintains the professional image of the Trust

  • Evidence of a General Education e.g. GCSE's or equivalent in Maths and English Grade 4 or above

  • Knowledge of Hospital Systems

  • Some experience of working as a Healthcare Assistant in a Hospital or Registered Care setting
  • Commitment to working in partnership with patients/carers
