Specialty Doctor in General Adult Psychiatry-Grantham Crisis

Job summary

Appointment of a part-time Specialty Doctor in Adult Inpatient Psychiatry based at Grantham Crisis Team, based at the Sycamore Centre. The post holder will be working alongside a skilled multi-disciplinary team who provide general psychiatric care for adults through our inpatient and urgent care pathways. This post will have the support of a supervising Consultant.

The post holder should demonstrate a commitment to further development in inpatient care, be up to date with all training, and have experience in dealing with patients in a psychiatry setting in the NHS.

Our inpatient services are currently undergoing a transformation programme to support the delivery of trauma-informed, relational and person-centred care. The post holder will be expected to uphold these principles in their practice and to support teams to deliver on the transformation programme.

Main duties of the job

To be part of a multi-disciplinary team providing services to the patients under the care of the Grantham Crisis Team

Liaising with other professionals and agencies involved in the patients' care.

Attend care planning meetings, ward rounds, risk assessments and referral meetings.

Seeing patients independently within the crisis team for psychiatric review

The Specialty Doctor will be expected to participate in the postgraduate activities related to psychiatric services and to ensure CPD requirements are met.

The Specialty Doctor will be expected to participate in departmental studies and the medical/clinical audit process.

So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, the post holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.

To be mindful of and actively involved in current safeguarding practices.

To be involved in the assessment and management of urgent and routine referrals.

To support the crisis team MDT in the management of complex patients through attendance at weekly MDT meetings and liaison with the wider system.

To liaise closely with other relevant agencies.

To keep accurate records as required.

To contribute to service meetings for the services and contribute to the development of service strategy.

To contribute to in-house training programmes within the services.

To contribute to the development of knowledge and skills within the service.

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • At least 4 years' full-time postgraduate training, or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis
  • At least two full-time years in a specialty training programme in relevant specialty, or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty, or equivalent experience and competencies.
  • Full GMC registration
  • DBS clearance

Desirable

  • MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Approved Clinician status is desirable
  • Approved under Section 12(2) or able to achieve within 3 months
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
