Assistant Psychologist

Job summary

The Community Forensic Team has an exciting opportunity for a six-month fixed-term Assistant Psychologist post. We are seeking applications for individuals who have a BPS recognised Degree in Psychology and are looking for experience in a forensic community setting. You will work alongside the whole MDT, but in particular our teams, Forensic/Clinical Psychologist and Trainee Forensic Psychologist. You will complete both direct and indirect clinical work with our patient group, alongside service development.

Please note that this is currently under review to align with the wider forensic psychology provisions.

Main duties of the job

The Community Forensic Team work with service users to support them to live their best lives in the community. We do this by providing specialist assessments and interventions for our patient group including those within the transforming care cohort. We work with mentally disordered offenders who present a significant risk of harm to others by nature of their mental disorder, including those registered at MAPPA and those subject to conditional discharge under Part 3 of the Mental Health Act.

  • Honours Degree (minimum 2:1) in Psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society with Graduate Basis for Registration (GBR)

Desirable

  • oMasters degree in forensic psychology or forensic undergraduate modules completed

Experience

  • Experience of working with people with mental health problems or complex needs
  • Knowledge and experience of applying of research methodology
  • Application of knowledge on psychological theory acquired through Psychology Degree to assessment and intervention

Desirable

  • Experience working with people with forensic backgrounds in any setting
  • Experience of risk assessment

  • High level of computer literacy, Power Point, Excel, SPSS etc.
  • Good written skills, including report writing
  • Good verbal communication skills
