Job summary

Psychology graduates with experience of working in Learning Disabilities Services are invited to join our adult community Learning Disability team.

We provide specialist mental health, physical health and positive behaviour support services.

We wish to recruit psychology graduates who have Honours degrees (2:1 or above) that confer the BPS Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) or Graduate Basis for Registration (GBR), and at least 12 months experience in working with adults who have learning disabilities and present with behaviours which are described as challenging.

All work will be fully supervised and supported by HCPC Registered Psychologists. The successful applicant will participate fully in internal training, reflective practice groups and ongoing audit/ research.

There are 4 qualified psychologists and a group of assistants, working across the county. We are closely involved with the Trent Clinical Psychology Training course, offering placements and teaching.

Most of our clients are community-based, living within supported living, residential and nursing homes as well as those living with their family. The work involves having a personal caseload and providing assessments, developing psychologically based formulations and interventions, and evaluating effectiveness of interventions. It involves substantial engagement with other agencies involved in the care or support of our clients.

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist, the post holder will contribute to the provision of a highly specialist psychological service to adults with learning disabilities.

The post holder will autonomously offer specialist psychological assessments under supervision (including psychometric assessments, behavioural assessments), develop psychological formulations (also supporting team formulation as needed) and the delivery of manualised and bespoke interventions to the communities we serve.

This will include, but is not limited to, screening and assessment of dementia, distressed behaviours, mood disorders; supporting the clinical psychologist in MDT formulation sessions; supporting with the development and delivery of bespoke training packages.

The role is varied with opportunity for direct therapeutic intervention, MDT consultation as well as group work and training. The post holders will have the opportunity to be part of the ongoing service development, service evaluation & audit. The post holder will, at times, need to lone work and travel independently, whilst also have the skills to work as part of an MDT.
