Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated experienced individual who would relish the opportunity to practice in the CAMHS Learning Disability Team within LPFT.

This post is available to experienced professionals who hold a professional qualification in Learning Disability Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Children's Nursing, Social Work, Learning Disability Teaching, Occupational Therapy or Speech and Language Therapy.

This is a great opportunity for an individual who is looking to develop their skills across the children's mental health workforce to join an experienced and well-established Multi-Disciplinary Team within LPFT who provide services to children who have a moderate to severe Learning Disability.

The team are passionate about our children and young people services which provide specialist mental health assessment and interventions for children and young people with complex and enduring mental health problems, including those with a Learning Disability.

The CAMHS Learning Disability Team provides a county wide service, which covers hubs based in Lincoln, Grantham, Boston and Louth. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who can provide safe and effective mental health interventions to children living in Lincolnshire.

Main duties of the job

The CAMHS LD team consists of a Consultant Psychiatrist, Highly Specialised Clinical Psychologists, Learning Disability Nurses, Independent Prescriber, Social Worker's, Occupational Therapist, Speech & Language Therapist, an Assistant Practitioner.

You will work alongside these professionals to complete holistic mental health assessments, observations and direct intervention work in both a home, school and respite setting, which includes offering advocacy and signposting to other services.

You will also support the transitions between services for children and young people who have a learning disability. The applicant may also get the opportunity to become involved in service development and research/audit opportunities.

To provide a high standard of clinical care ensuring safe and effective assessment, treatment and comprehensive discharge planning using highly developed clinical reasoning skills and appropriate assessment tools.

Work collaboratively, and promote effective working relationships, with members of the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring effective clinical decision-making, internally and with external agencies.

Empower patients and their families/carers to influence and use available services, information and skills and act as an advocate where appropriate.

Provide full assessment and appropriate follow up care via care planning and clinical pathways, individual and group interventions, in partnership with young people/families/carers and other workers involved in care delivery.

Work within defined waiting times.

Provide an extended hours service, as required.

Participate in screening of referrals for appropriateness and onward signposting/referral as appropriate.

Provide pre-CAMHS support, advice, consultation and training to partnership agencies.

Work in accordance with relevant childcare, health legislation and professional standards in partnership with wider childrens services and to engage fully with Safeguarding, single assessment and other processes which requires working together with other agencies.

Proactively involve young people and families in service development including using service questionnaires to obtain structured feedback.

Provide a professional, non-stigmatising service to children and families.

Work closely with other colleagues within the service to enable effective transitions to and from other areas.

Ensure best practice by incorporating NICE guidance and meeting healthcare standards.

Adhere to Trust Policies in consideration of Children in Need and safeguarding issues and in maintaining accurate and effective written records.

Use outcome measures to evidence effectiveness of treatments provided.

Chair both clinical and non-clinical meetings, as required.

Propose changes and developments to service delivery and contribute to policy discussions at both team and service level.

Participate in management and clinical supervision.

Actively participate in the delivery of training opportunities for staff and students.

To be able to travel independently and work flexibly.

Manage caseload and service delivery in accordance with, and in order to contribute towards the attainment of, the Service/Trust productivity requirements, including waiting times.

  • Registered with a professional body e.g. NMC, UK Council for Psychotherapy, Social Work England, British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, HCPC, General Teaching Council
  • RNMH/ RNLD/Social Worker/Occupational Therapist/ Speech and Language Therapist with current registration
  • Or RN (child) /RSCN
  • Or qualified Teacher
  • Evidence of specialised continued professional training in clinical practice.
