The role provides support to both a Consultant and resident doctors involved with the Grantham Older Adults Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), as well as to another Consultant, resident doctors, and an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) who are part of our dementia home treatment team.
There may therefore be requirements for the suitable candidate to travel one day per week to Witham Court in North Hykeham to support with collating information and preparing MDTs, taking minutes, etc. Both roles will require the candidate to arrange appointments either in outpatients or organise meetings and links via Microsoft Teams for carers and other professionals, ensuring that appointments are suitable and kept to time.
Typing and sending Discharge summaries, outpatient letters and medication letters in a timely manner will be an integral part of this role. The candidate will also support resident doctors, including their local induction.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to provide efficient and effective medical secretarial support to a consultant and a speciality doctor and assist in the organisation of their workload. The ability to demonstrate initiative and provide cross cover/support to the existing Medical Secretary will be crucial to facilitate effective service function. The medical secretary faces a challenging range of tasks, including acting as a personal assistant to Consultant Psychiatrist and will be required to support the coordination of team working. Having a positive, enthusiastic and "can do" attitude with a strong work ethic is important. You must have excellent communication skills, with a good level of competency in Microsoft Office 365 packages. Knowledge of RiO would be advantageous.
You will need to support with the scheduling of the weekly MDT that is held on a Thursday and to ensure letters are typed and sent promptly and accurately. You will also be responsible for ensuring MDT medical outcomes are followed up effectively and efficiently.
You will also be required at times to liaise with GPs and carers over the phone or via digital means, using Microsoft Teams. There is an expectation for the Medical Secretaries to provide cover for one another during leave and/or periods of sickness
