Job summary

The Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) support children and young people within school and college settings who are presenting with mental health or emotional health problems which are of a low to moderate level of complexity and/or intensity.

You will be part of the multi-disciplinary MHST and be responsible for supporting the development of the teams and embedding its services within educational settings. Youwill work as an autonomous and accountable practitioner within a wider multidisciplinary team. This involves the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the care for the child or young person.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for developing and disseminating packages of care, holding a caseload and undertaking the role of Senior Practitioner for children and young people with mild to moderate health problems in educational settings. Support given may include a variety of evidenced based interventions and work with parents and teaching staff on both an individual basis and/or in a group setting.

You will work collaboratively with young people and their families incorporating the use of outcome measures within their work, and will offer specialist support, consultation and training to staff within the service and other agencies where appropriate. Youwill provide assessment and therapeutic interventions and will support the Education Mental Health Practitioners in delivering the service.

  • Low Intensity Supervisor training qualification, (or willingness to attend this at the earliest available opportunity)
  • CWP or EMHP Post Graduate Certificate
  • Substantial experience of providing supervision to low intensity practitioners
  • Registered with the BABCP or BPS as a CWP or EMHP (or applied for this)
