Job summary

Lincoln Mental Health Liaison Service is looking for Peer Support Workers to provide 1:1 support for Service Users, who are experiencing emotional distress in the A&E Department and inpatient wards at Lincoln County Hospital. You must be flexible, demonstrate non-judgmental and shared lived experience, and be passionate about promoting hopefulness and good Mental Health.

The shifts are to be worked flexibly to cover 08:00-20:00hrs Mon.-Fri. and we have part time and full time hours available

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a transforming Service, that is developing as part of the success of being awarded funding to provide a Core 24-hour Service in April 2021. Lincoln MHLS has Membership to the Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network and was awarded accreditation following a Peer review, demonstrating our achievement of The Royal College of Psychiatrist Standards in July 2021.

This will ensure that they receive the right support at the right time, as well as raising awareness of alternatives to the A&E Dept.

Main duties of the job

Through sharing from their own experiences, peer support workers will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.

The Peer Support Worker (PSW) will provide one-tone support for individuals in A&E, to build safe, trusting relationships based on non-judgemental listening and shared lived experience.

The post holder will work under the supervision of a Clinical Lead, Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Substance Misuse Recovery Worker.

To promote the concept of recovery in all work carried out, acting as an example to service users.

To act as an ambassador for the Peer Support Worker service with Trust colleagues and with external agencies and partner organisations.

To support patients with transition across services and during the discharge process which may require analysis, comparison and suitability of service options

To identify resources, opportunities, services and activities that promotes how to improve health and recovery.

Share coping, self-help and self-management techniques within the peer relationship.

Actively promote patient feedback by developing and utilising current patient feedback processes to further identify ways in which patient engagement can be improved.

To liaise with the Clinical Lead, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Mental Health Practitioners, Substance Misuse Recovery Worker and carry out assigned duties as a member of the multi- disciplinary mental health team. This will include direct support of individuals experiencing mental health problems

Promote equality for all patients and understand their health needs.

Liaise with representatives from associated voluntary and statutory organisations and facilitate good communication processes.

To work within the policies, protocols and clinical procedures of Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and to promote competent working practice within an integrated multi-disciplinary team.

Engage in a period of induction, supervision and role related training as required.

Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information at all times and ensure accurate record keeping in accordance with Trust policy.

To work flexibly across the week, this may include some weekend and evening work

  • ImROC or Institute of mental health peer support worker training or ability to complete this when in post
