Job summary
Do you want to experience of working in a tertiary referral hospital delivering core and sub-speciality Orthoptic practice? Do you want to work in a team with nationally recognised experts in their field? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Orthoptist to join our team as an Advanced Orthoptist fixed term post for a year.
There are two adverts for an Advanced Orthoptist, permanent and fixed term (covering career break). If you wish to apply for both, you only need to apply to one post you are most interested in and indicate with your supporting information if you would like to be considered for both posts.
Main duties of the job
- Manage a diverse and complex Orthoptic caseload, providing advanced clinical assessment and decision-making across core and specialist clinics
- Be the main Orthoptic led in paediatric nystagmus service
- Undertake perceptorship support for new graduates with support from the educational lead
- Support Moorfields' role as a centre of excellence by supervising, mentoring and teaching students and other healthcare professionals
- Contribute to service development within the wider Orthoptic team, supporting high-quality, patient-centred care

- Be the primary Orthoptic contact for paediatric nystagmus service
- Contribute to multidisciplinary clinics including motility, toxin, variety of paediatric sub-specialties
- Work autonomously at a network site, taking responsibility for triage, referral and management
Communication and MDT working
- Communicate complex information sensitively with patients and families
- Provide accurate documentation and correspondence
- Liaise with MDT colleagues, family support teams and safeguarding services
Education, supervision and leadership
- Provide perceptorship support for new graduate
- Deliver teaching to a variety of health care professionals
- Supervise students, junior colleagues and trainees as required
- Support monthly strabismus service teaching
