Moorfields at Bedford are looking for a Staff Nurse to join the team. Key duties include:

To work according to the Nursing & Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines as a named nurse for a defined group of patients and take responsibility for:Protecting and supporting the health of individual patients and clients.The assessment and care of patients attending clinic at Moorfields BedfordThe development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care including discharge of patients from Eye theatre reception.To provide excellent patient care and management at Moorfields Bedford.Have the skills, knowledge and expertise to be able to take appropriate action when dealing withpatients within the specialty and during emergencies.To assist in promoting and implementing the Moorfields Values in the department.To be a visible presence for Moorfields Staff and patients.Deputise in the absence of senior staff nurse and when needed.To promote and maintain effective communication within the multi-disciplinary teamTo facilitate and support student nurses to develop their competence and skills which will enable them to become competent practitioners.To work alongside relevant nursing team members of Moorfields to facilitate learning and continuously improving care by ensuring policies and process are in place and are amended as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for carrying out clinical ophthalmic practice within designated clinical areas, ensuring that high quality, current evidence-based nursing assessment, care planning, implementation, interventions and evaluations for patients is provided from admission through to discharge.

To act as advocate for patients within the area, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.

To ensure that patients' receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.

Recognise the significance of observations made, and use them to develop and initiate nursing assessments and devise a plan of care.

Carry out ophthalmic nursing procedures and treatments, checking on and maintaining the highest possible standards.

To take a clear and concise history from patients by assessing their health and well-being and complete documentation ensuring that all entries are accurate and legible and that all information systems are maintained.

Undertake prescribed physical observations as follows measuring Intra ocular pressures after competency based training.

Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication.
