Job summary

The Pharmacy Department at Moorfields Eye Hospital is dedicated to a high quality of service and promoting the best value of medicines across all processes in line with the principles of Medicines Optimisation. With advancements in digital technology, complex medicines and rising service needs, changes are necessary in-service delivery to better optimise the value of medicines through medicines optimisation, collaborative and integrated working. This post aims to lead on medicines optimisation initiatives across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

This post focusses on advancing medicines optimisation initiatives in the trust including:o The post holder will maximise medicines optimisation initiatives and seek to develop these in conjunction with pharmacy and clinical and non-clinical service leads, in line with the Pharmacy strategy.o They will work collaboratively across the trust to review and develop new ways of working to optimise medicines, including those related to digital, sustainability and personalised medicine.o They will lead on optimising efficient pharmacy systems including all processes for EMIS Pharmacy and Omnicell.o They will work with Finance and Contracts teams to report and analyse on financial expenditure, as well as lead on optimising processes to ensure financial integrity and sustainability.o They will be the pharmacy lead between the North Central London Integrated Care System (ICS) and Moorfields for medicines optimisation as the Integrated Pharmacy Medicine Optimisation (IPMO) champion, as well as be active Trust Digital and Sustainability Groups.o They will provide advanced clinical support to all services to provide patient-level medicines optimisation such as for patients with complex regimens and co-morbidities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced pharmacist to lead, develop and manage systems to support medicines optimisation across the Trust.This involves working with the clinical, support service and management leads as well as external organisations to develop and maintain excellent prescribing and medicine supply systems, including the development of protocol and policy, training programmes and IT systems related to medicines optimisation including digital services.In addition to the provision of strategic support, the post holder will be required to provide clinical practitioner support in medicines review clinics, lead and manage Pharmacy Service Level Agreements, work closely with Finance and Contract teams for financial reporting and analysis, and also line manage staff.As the post holder will be required to act with a high degree of autonomy, candidates will be required to demonstrate experience in managing pharmacy services, leading on service improvement and a track record of managing change.

Essential

  • Registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Postgraduate Clinical Diploma/MSc in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent experience.
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)

Desirable

  • Business case development
  • Experience in providing pharmacist support to ophthalmology services
  • Service development within a clinical setting
  • Provision of specialist pharmacist support to patients to optimise medicines such as medicines adherence
  • Digital technology applications related to medicines optimisation such as telemedicine

Experience

Essential

  • Lead specialist clinical pharmacist experience within the hospital setting
  • Supervision of pharmacy staff in provision of ward pharmacy services or outpatient pharmacy services
  • Clinical guideline/protocol development
  • Mentoring and training experience pharmacy and non-pharmacy staff
  • Clinical audit
  • Production of complex medicine usage reports and analysis

  • Use of EPMA systems
  • Experience in providing service development related to digital technology
  • Business case development
