Job summary

Would you like to join the busy and highly skilled team of nurses in the Moorfields eye clinic and day care unit based at Ealing Hospital? We have an opportunity to recruit a dynamic Health Care Assistant Band 3 to work at our Ealing site.

Main duties of the job

You will carry out and assist with specific ophthalmic procedures and support the clinic and day care staff, working as part of a multi- disciplinary team.

You must be of reliable character, professional and demonstrate the ability to take instruction from your seniors. You will need to be flexible and will need to rotate within the division where you will be expected to assist the nursing staff. You will support both patients in clinic and the multi disciplinary team and be able to work independently with minimal support.

The post-holder will be responsible supporting the clinical team in providing quality care to our patients who present with a wide variety of ophthalmic conditions also maintaining a safe and clean environment.

Job responsibilities

To support qualified nursing staff in providing high quality individualised care to a defined group of service users, relatives and carers. Ensuring the safety and well-being of service users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.

Clinical and Patient Care

To support qualified staff in the assessment of health needs, planning, delivery and evaluation of care for a number of individuals or groups of patients, including clinical risk assessment.

To exercise a reasonable and agreed degree of professional autonomy and make judgements and decisions in order to satisfy the expectations and demands of the job.

To undertake clinical work and related tasks as delegated by qualified nursing staff following appropriate training and assessment of competency.

To liaise effectively with all stakeholders in the care process, including carers and relatives, aspiring to provide an effective, seamless and integrated service to patients.

To attain competencies, by following the Trusts required protocol.

To act as chaperone when required.

To maintain and update relevant knowledge and skills, maintain a professional portfolio and participate in further training as appropriate, in order to enhance quality of care for patients and carers.

To undertake clinical supervision in line with Trust Policy, to further develop competence and clinical practice.

To communicate effectively and in a timely manner within the team.

Understand the principle of confidentiality.

Always communicate in a way that maintains the patients confidentiality.

To develop within the framework of a personal development plan as agreed with your manager.

To participate in training to achieve the competencies required to undertake the role under the supervision of a trained nurse.

Maintain clear and legible patient records in accordance with both Trust and professional standards for record keeping.

In conjunction with the Ward Manager and other senior members of the multi-disciplinary team support a positive culture and environment for both staff and patients.

Encourage service users in providing feedback on the quality of service provided on the ward both on a local and Trust level and provide leadership in implementing user focused quality improvement initiatives.
