Job summary

We are seeking an exceptional Healthcare Assistant that shares our vision for excellence to work with us here at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to use their initiative and excellent interpersonal skills as well as learn a range of ophthalmic skills. The post holder will be required to carry out routine procedures to care for patients who are undergoing surgery for patients with many different eye conditions. You will also be expected to support patients and their relatives as required.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a Healthcare Support Worker to support our surgical patient pathways and you will be joining our team during an exciting time as we rethink how we provide care for patients who need surgery. You will also be expected to support our patients waiting for transport in the main reception area. You will receive a full induction, training & competency package and you will receive supervision from senior team members.

The role is based in our Moorfields Eye Hospital at City Road.

The successful candidate will be required to be flexible, enthusiastic and committed to bringing the highest level of ophthalmic care to people, reflected in our Trust's core belief that "People's sight matters".

Previous healthcare assistant experience of working in an acute hospital setting would be essential, as well as a good standard of education including numeracy and literacy, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.

Participate in the delivery of patient centred care, maintaining a compassionate and professional attitude at all times.

Support qualified staff in the assessment of health needs and the delivery of care for a number of individuals or groups of patients, including clinical risk assessment.

Work collaboratively with others as part of the multi-disciplinary team, assisting nursing and other clinical staff in duties associated with patient care.

Support colleagues in ensuring that patients receive care in a timely manner during their visit to Moorfields. Ensuring that patients are fully informed of any delays and what is being done to address or rectify delays in treatments or clinical tests.

Treat patients with dignity and respect and maintaining their confidentiality both inside and outside the hospital environment.

Provide support to the clinical team in the delivery of care ensuring that these are within your personal scope of knowledge and competency.

Ensure that the clinical areas are prepared for use at the start of each shift and reviewed at regular intervals throughout the day e.g. ensuring that clinical areas are clean and tidy, all the necessary equipment such as clinical documents and consumables are stocked up adhering to all health and safety and infection control policies.

Give clear and concise explanation and test instructions to ensure maximum patient understanding and co-operation, taking into account patients who have visual impairment, hearing loss, physical ormental disabilities, learning difficulties, different age groups, cultural differences and non-English speaking patients.
