Job summary

Across the Trust there are number of workstreams that relate to patient education and engagement whether in a specific format for patients attending clinics and due to undergo procedures, or as general advice for patients with symptoms or conditions. There are also external sources of patient education produced by patient support groups e.g. Macular Society and clinical organisations such as the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

The most common source of patient anxiety and complaint is the lack of appropriate, condition-specific information.

This role aims to draw together all these different sources of information and curate them appropriately to ensure that they are accessible to patients.

Providing this information in an accessible manner will ensure that our patients have the knowledge to make informed choices regarding their ongoing care and have the confidence that these choices will be respected an acted upon by our staff.

Main duties of the job

The Head of Digital Education will work with clinicians, patients and subject matter experts to produce creative, engaging and informative digital educational content for patients and where this already exists provide appropriate sign posting and curation of data for easy access. This is a creative role that is responsible for developing content across a variety of channels.

They will contribute to the development, planning and provision of clinical information for patients predominantly using digital services, including specific advice on patient conditions and treatments and help with digital video, audio, still image capture, digitisation and their online dissemination. This will also include linking patient learning with e-consent platforms with the Department of Digital Medicine.

They will liaise with and provide support to current patient support workstreams to ensure learning is disseminated and prevent repetition of content on different patient education platforms.
