Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated pharmacist to join the Ocular Inflammation Therapeutics Service. This highly regarded and well established team supports the safe use of systemic immunosuppressant medicines for a range of sight threatening autoimmune diseases. The role is fully integrated into the into the clinical service and works closely with medics, nurses and pharmacists from a range of sub specialties.

Main duties of the job

The position is essential to support the safe use of immunosuppressants, the successful candidate must be efficient and highly motivated. They must be an excellent communicator and work well in a team. Sound clinical knowledge is a requirement but training will be provided.

  • You will attend clinic, counsel patients and order and review blood tests before patients are initiated on immunosuppressant medicines.
  • You will co-ordinate ongoing blood test monitoring whilst patients are using immunosuppressants.
  • You will work with medical leads in multiple services to formulate patient care plans for those with out of range blood test results.
  • You will attend MDTs with internal and external medics.
  • You will contribute to medication and financial governance workstreams.
  • There will be opportunity to undertake audit and present your work.

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Postgraduate Clinical Diploma/MSc in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent experience.
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification

  • Specialist clinical pharmacist experience within the hospital setting.
  • Clinical guideline/protocol development
  • Clinical audit
  • Management within hospital of patients supplied medicines via homecare services
  • Experience in providing pharmacist support to ophthalmology services
