Job summary

The Excellence Delivery Unit (XDU) was set up in June 2022 to support the organisation to deliver its 5 year strategy 'Working together to discover, develop and deliver excellent eye care, sustainably and at scale'. The organisation is at an exciting time, building a new hospital (Oriel), introducing an EPR and moving towards the future eye care pathway.

The Excellence Portfolio is comprised of key projects that support this strategy. The projects are overseen by four, executive chaired Excellence Programme Boards and a monthly portfolio board, chaired by the Chief executive. The role of the XDU is to provide assurance of project delivery, supporting them to set up for success and deliver in line with our project lifecycle.

This post is a key role within the Excellence Delivery Unit (XDU) team with a remit to coordinate the routine progress tracking of all Excellence Portfolio projects and enable high quality administration support is provided to the executive team.

Main duties of the job

The role leads the day to day running of the Excellence Delivery Unit (XDU) including coordinating the Excellence Programme Boards, the monthly project reporting cycle, project health checks and post project reviews.

Working closely with project SROs and teams, we set them up for success and support them through the project lifecycle.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

This post will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months.

The probationary period may be extended or your employment terminated either during or at the end of probation, in line with the trust Probationary Policy. Job responsibilities

Management and oversight of the status reporting for all Excellence Portfolio projects

Ensuring all project leadership teams are enabled to use the XDU project lifecycle and associated tools in projects

Ensuring high quality information is available to support discussion at the Excellence Portfolio Board and Programme Boards within the portfolio

Facilitating the management of interdependencies across portfolio board projects and identify opportunities for collaboration.

Providing oversight to the executive assistant team, ensuring high quality support to the executive team.

Line manage the Delivery Unit Officers, setting objectives, providing day to day supervision and enabling development where appropriate

Lead the alignment of Delivery Unit Officers to portfolio areas, facilitating engagement and ensuring a consistent offer across the portfolio

Work with the Delivery Unit team to continuously improve the tools and processes within the department

Support or lead, where appropriate, the development of the Excellence Delivery service

Coordinate the routine review of all project lifecycle templates and highlight opportunities for improvement

Develop annual business plan for the Excellence Delivery Unit (XDU)

Lead the Excellence Delivery Unit business planning gateway review for both clinical and corporate business plans
