Job summary

Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for two posts of Clinical Physiologist to work in the prestigious department of Electrophysiology currently located at the City Road site.

The successful applicant will have completed a science degree or other relevant qualification and should have experience working in a clinical and / or hospital environment. Candidates must have good communication skills, good manual dexterity, and an ability to work well with a range of patients and staff at all levels. The ability to use Microsoft packages is essential to the role.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be supported and trained to undertake vital diagnostic testing of the eyes and visual function of a wide range of patients using a variety of both electrophysiological and psychophysical techniques. These investigations are essential in the diagnosis of patients and as a result pivotal to patient's treatments and care plans.

The Electrophysiology Department provides internal services to both planned and emergency care. Due to the expertise and specialism within the department, referrals are also received nationally.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

This post will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months.

During the probationary period, your suitability for continued employment will be assessed and provided a satisfactory standard is achieved and maintained, your employment will be confirmed. The probationary period may be extended or your employment terminated either during or at the end of probation, in line with the trust Probationary Policy. For the duration of the probation period, the notice period will be in line with contractual obligations on either side.

The Clinical Physiologists role in the visual electrophysiology department primarily involves testing a wide variety of patients and volunteers, of all ages, utilizing a range of electrophysiological and psychophysical techniques, to assist in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of disorders. To work as a member of the team in order to significantly contribute to the smooth running of the service.

MAIN RESPONSIBILTITES

  1. To perform various tests on patients and volunteers using a variety of both electrophysiological and psychophysical techniques, and possibly to supervise the performing of such tests by students.
  2. To perform the initial quantification of such tests, and to annotate and document the results of this analysis.
  3. To participate in the research work of the department.
  4. To further their understanding of visual electrophysiology and ophthalmology through study and attendance at appropriate teaching and scientific meetings; to maintain continuing professional development.
  5. To assist in the maintenance of the departmental records and appointments systems.
  6. To assist with the preparation of data for presentation.
  7. To demonstrate departmental techniques and practice where appropriate.
  8. Day to day care and maintenance of the equipment.
  9. General office tasks.
  10. Any other appropriate duties as defined by senior staff.
