Job summary

Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for the post of Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist with an interest in Vitreo-retinal surgery based at City Road. This is a fixed term part-time post for 12 months.

As part of this post, you will be responsible for the care and management of patients seen in your allocated VR/ VRE clinics and operating sessions. You will be required to participate in the VRE on call rota alongside the other consultants.

In addition you will be representing the service and acting as the lead for our diagnostic pathway plan. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a major service development project for the Vitreo-retinal service.

The successful applicant will have completed FRCOphth / MRCOphth and must be registered with the GMC. Applicants need to evidence demonstrable training and experience in all aspects of Vitreo-retinal work.

Main duties of the job

MAIN RESPONSIBILTITES

  • Running face to face, telephone and virtual new and follow up patient clinics
  • Running operating lists
  • Covering VRE on call sessions
  • Supervision and training of fellows and trainees at Moorfields
  • Teaching of doctors in training, both formal and informal
  • Participating in service audits

The Vitreo-retinal Service is currently under the direction of Professor Lyndon da Cruz and consists of 9 consultants. It is further supported bytwo North Thames Specialist Registrars (Fellows) sub-specialising in Vitreo-retinal, five Vitreo-retinal Fellows and five Specialist Registrars. In addition we have a Nurse consultant who plays an increasing role in the management of all Vitreo-retinal patients.

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • FRCOphth / MRCOphth or equivalent ophthalmic qualification.
  • Full GMC Registration (with a 'License to Practise').
  • CCT in Ophthalmology or equivalent ophthalmic training (or be within 6 months of CCT date).
  • Be on or eligible for the GMC specialist register, or be within 6 months of entry.

Desirable

  • Higher Degree (e.g. MD or PhD).
