Job summary
Moorfields Eye Hospital invites applications for the post of Lead Pharmacy Technician based within the Private Pharmacy in the Moorfields Private Outpatient Centre at Bath Street. The post-holder will be involved in various duties required to support our team and the Private Pharmacy service.
You will receive full training and work under the supervision and management of our Pharmacy Manager and Pharmacists.You will be required to work in both inpatients and outpatients services and carry out a full range of ward activities supporting the nursing team and other pharmacy staff members.
Previous experience in Ophthalmology and working for the Independent Healthcare Sector would be desirable but not essential.You will be working full shift rotation, early and late shifts, through 6 days per week.
Main duties of the job
Your duties will involve roles in both in and out-patient services andinclude (but not exhaustively):
- Accuracy checking of both in and out-patient prescriptions.
- Participating in ward/clinicstop-ups
- Ordering stock and stock control
- Labelling and assembling Inpatient, Day Case, Outpatient, and Refractive Laser prescriptions
- Dealing with queries from consultants, practice managers, patients and other clinical staff
- Assisting with all medicines management queries for Moorfields Private

Dispensary and Clinical Services
- To oversee the development of the technical Pharmacy service throughout Moorfields Private (MP) at City Road/Bath Street and the management of the MP Pharmacy dispensary at Bath Street on a day-to-day basis to ensure that a safe and efficient service is provided to patients.
- To supervise the management and prioritisation of the work processes in the MP pharmacy at Bath Street and to ensure adequate cover is in place at all times to maintain an efficient service, including late shifts and Saturday rotas.
- To oversee the supply and distribution of Emergency Resus Medication to all MP wards and clinics.
- To provide support for other technical staff in developing specific Standard Operational Policies and Procedures for their area of responsibility within the MP Pharmacy in conjunction with Specialist Pharmacists in MP.
- To ensure adherence to legislation in relation to supply of medicines.
- To ensure that all processes and procedures relating to Controlled Drugs stored within the MP Pharmacy are adhered to at all times.
- To contribute to the development of supplementary Patient Information Leaflets and procedural documents relating to the use of unlicensed medicines.
- To ensure medication safety at all times and that all patients are counselled by appropriately trained members of staff on effective and safe use of their medicine.
- To ensure that all medication incidents are recorded on the Trust Safeguard system by staff operating in MP Pharmacy and support the MP Pharmacy Operations and Development Manager in the investigation, review and closure of these incidents.

- To resolve, advise on and respond to patient complaints, emergency and non-routine Dispensary and Technical Pharmacy service situations within MP pharmacy.
- To respond to all patient related complaints in a professional and prompt manner providing support to staff working within MP Pharmacy, addressing patients personally and responding promptly to all verbal and written complaints, carrying out any necessary investigations, drafting a written response to the patient for review by the Moorfields Private Pharmacy Operations and Development Manager and to implement any immediate actions required to avoid replication of the issues arising.
- To ensure the correct management of stock in MP Pharmacy and clinical areas within outpatient clinics and at ward level.
- To act as an Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) and Medicines Management Technician as per service requirements and needs.
- To generate invoices and manage invoice queries for outpatients and/or discharge prescriptions using Compucare system.
- To collect prescription charges following relevant SPOs.
- To reconcile the contents of the Pharmacy Card machine with the Finance department staff on a daily basis.
