Job summary
The post will be predominantly outpatient-based at Moorfields Eye Hospital, City Road. However, in the current era there is a need to undertake virtual clinics. In addition, daily virtual vetting of new Ocular Oncology referrals is the responsibility of the senior doctors and consultants within the service. The successful candidate will be expected to cover surgical operating lists as the lead surgeon. There is plenty of opportunity to be involved in clinical research and presenting at meetings, which is actively encouraged. The successful candidate would be expected to support the current International Ocular Oncology fellowship training program.
The Adult Ocular Oncology Service is currently under the direction of Professor Sagoo whereas the Retinoblastoma service, based at the Royal London Hospital, is directed by Mr Reddy. These supra-regional services accept tertiary referrals from all over UK. In June 2015 the Adult Ocular Oncology Service was centralised to Moorfields Eye Hospital which has improved access to expert vitreoretinal and medical retina specialists. The service is closely linked to the department of pathology based at the Institute of Ophthalmology on the same site, which has an excellent international reputation reporting ocular specimens from all over the country.
Main duties of the job
The Specialist in Ocular Oncology main responsibilities at MEH NHSFT would be:
- Running face to face new and follow up clinics

The timetable may therefore change in future to meet the demands of this extended service
