Job summary
We have a band 6 ( Senior Paediatric Nurse) opportunity available in our Paediatric department in Richard Desmond Children's Eye Centre at Moorfields Eye Hospital. The post holder will be covering this role to cover maternity leave in a 12-month fixed term contract. We have exciting Band 6 ophthalmology opportunities for an innovative, enthusiastic, and experienced Paediatric Nurse to support the service and work alongside the nursing team in Outpatient and Daycase Surgical Unit.
Please note this role's fixed term contract is for the purpose of covering maternity leave and therefore the end date is subject to change in line with this.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will take responsibility for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care programmes throughout the paediatric nursing service in the Children's Eye Centre (RDCEC). The post holder will participate in safeguarding children and young people, using prior experience and knowledge and will communicate concerns to the safeguarding team and paediatric colleagues. To deputise for the Nurse-in-charge as necessary.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD
This post will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
During the probationary period, your suitability for continued employment will be assessed and provided a satisfactory standard is achieved and maintained, your employment will be confirmed. The probationary period may be extended or your employment terminated either during or at the end of probation, in line with the trust Probationary Policy. For the duration of the probation period, the notice period will be in line with contractual obligations on either side.

The band 6 staff nurse will participate in the management and appraisal of junior nursing and play staff and the assessment and supervision of pre-registration nurses in the service.
The post holder will be a supportive team member with an understanding of child development and the impact this can have on their response to the hospital pathway and demonstrate an awareness of the different needs of children and their families and will work with them to deliver family-centred care.
