Job summary
The successful candidate will contribute to emergency care across the Division of medicine and will work as a Specialty Doctor as part of the Emergency Department team with a full shift rota. The rota is calculated at 10 programmed activities. We have forged close links between our Acute Medicine and Emergency Medicine Teams. As part of the Consultant led team the successful applicant will provide shop floor input and leadership.
Main duties of the job
Managing a whole spectrum of emergency patients
Assistance and supervision of the F1, F2 and GPST doctors with the management of patients.
Strengthening the delivery of a high quality Emergency Medicine service across the hospital and community.
Developing further links between Emergency Medicine and Acute Medicine
Developing innovative practices in clinical patient management, focusing on high quality care.
Developing a subspecialty interest.

Must be able to work as an independent middle-grade doctor with minimal supervision.
Completion of at least four years full time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis), at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty, or equivalent experience and competence in Emergency Medicine.
Resuscitate and Stabilize (SLO3): Ability to identify sick adult patients, perform resuscitation, stabilization, and recognize appropriate cessation at the entrustment level of level of 2b as per RCEM. Possession of an up-to-date ALS certificate.
ALS + ATLS or APLS (minimum 2 life support with skills to demonstrate)
Care for injured patient (SLO4): + Completion of ATLS or ETC or similar trauma course able to demonstrate the skills at the entrustment level of level of 2b as per RCEM.
Ability to identify sick paediatric patients, resuscitate and stabilize them + Possession of an APLS or EPLS certification and able to demonstrate the skills at the entrustment level of level of 2b.
Chest Drain: Seldinger Technique. Entrustment level -2b as per RCEM.
Open Chest Drain- 2a as per RCEM.
Fracture/Dislocation Manipulation- able to demonstrate the skills at the entrustment level of level of 2b -as per RCE
Ability to provide conscious sedation.
Dealing with complex and challenging situations in the workplace (SLO6).
