Senior Paediatric Audiologist

Job summary
We are looking for a Band 6 Senior Paediatric Audiologist with ERA/ABR experience.
The role will include working with both adults and children. The post holder will deliver a consistent skilled performance of a broad range of more complex, precision work or activities, and specialist areas. The audiologist will be expected to carry out all aspects of clinical audiology using a range of test equipment and with a high degree of clinical autonomy. The Audiologist will be expected to deal with sensitive and emotive subjects with empathy and have good counselling skills. Overcoming communication and motivational barriers to treatment with non-routine patients in all areas of Audiology.
At this level the audiologist should have acquired organisational, communication and leadership skills and be able to work autonomously within the team. They will take responsibility for aspects of the day to day running of the service in the absence of the Audiology Paediatric Clinical Lead.
At this level the Audiologist is expected to be involved in personnel training and management. Training responsibilities will include the training of other medical professions, including members of the medical profession.
In addition to the duties listed below, the audiologist must maintain continuous professional development.
Main duties of the job
In addition to the minimum duties of all lower grade Audiologists and Assistant Audiologists, the Senior will:
- Supervise the work of trainee and assistant Audiologists and provide guidance and support in audiological techniques to trainees studying for professional examinations
- Perform more advanced test procedures including ERA testing.
- Assessment of patients with hearing difficulties who struggle with routine hearing tests.
- Carry out aural rehabilitation on patients with additional special needs other than hearing loss
- Perform tests on young children and assist in auditory rehabilitation programmes for young children
- Carry out direct referral procedures, including the specialist Direct referrals.
- Select, fit and exchange non standard hearing aids to children
- Assessment fitting and evaluation of Bone Anchored Hearing Aids
- Ensure and co-ordinate the maintenance and calibration of audiological equipment
- To participate in the recruitment and selection of staff and be involved in staff discipline as necessary.
- Carry out any other duties as may be discussed and agreed with the line manager
