Newborn Hearing Screener

Job summary

To work as part of the Newborn Hearing Screening Team performing hearing screens on new born babies, record and collect data and liaise with parents and other health professionals as required. The post involves handling newborn babies both on the maternity units and in out-patients across both of the Trust hospital sites which have maternity services. This is a daily service including weekend and bank holiday working (excluding Christmas Day and New Year's Day) which actively promotes a caring, professional and family friendly service.

Applicants should hold the relevant qualifications including the required Level 3 Diploma in screening (newborn hearing) or be prepared to undertake the required mandatory training upon appointment to the post.

As this post will require travelling between hospital sites, a driver's licence would be essential.

Main duties of the job

To identify which babies require screening within guidelines and protocols.To liaise effectively with parents, team members and other health care professionals to ensure screening is offered and delivered in a timely way.To carry out the hearing screening of new-borns within the Maternity Unit or outpatients using AOAE and AABR testing equipment, and accurately record clinical and test data. To organise and book any outpatient appointments as requiredTo perform data entry and electronic uploading of screening results to the national recording system and report any processing difficultiesTo promote a professional, welcoming and caring environment endorsing a Family Friendly approach to care. Delivering screening results in a clear yet sensitive way having a positive influence.To successfully complete mandatory trainingTo maintain up to date knowledge of procedures and policies relevant to this post.To maintain the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of the babies and their families at all times.To ensure the safety and security of equipment at all times and report any problems to the Hearing Screening Local Manager at the earliest opportunity.To facilitate the smooth delivery of hearing screening by reporting all incidents and progress to the NHSP Local Manager.
