Upper GI Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job summary

The Band 7 Specialist Nurse Role will be responsible for the provision of specialist nursing care for a defined patient/client group, practicing as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team and beyond.

The post holder will be a responsible line manager to the UGI team to include managing sickness absence, completing colleague appraisals and managing eRoster for the team.

The post holder will work across professional, clinical providers as required to develop and support patient-centred seamless care. To facilitate the links between primary, secondary and tertiary care settings providing a coordinated care system to ensure continuity of care.

The role encompasses clinical, consultative, education, leadership and research functions. The primary concern of the CNS is to bring the highest standards of clinical care to the patient through good symptom management, emotional support and access to appropriate services and advice, seeking support from more experienced members of the Specialist Upper GI Team as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will assist in the running of clinics and this will include nurse led clinics. Manage a patient caseload and make appropriate referrals to others.

Develop and plan specialist nurse led clinics in collaboration with the MDT and general manager

Promote clinical excellence through his/her practice in the UGI/HPB cancer service

Contribute to the MDT discussion, patient assessment/care planning decisions of the team at the weekly central UGI MDT meetings

Work actively with GP's and community teams to improve prevention, diagnosis, aftercare, and management of patients with UGI cancer

Ensure that each patient is given an individualized service respecting diverse cultural and spiritual backgrounds and ensuring that trust and confidentiality are maintained
