Job summary

Bereavement Officer within the Bereavement Care Services Team at DBTH:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Bereavement Care Services Team at Doncaster and Bassetlaw teaching Hospitals.

This role offers an empathic and efficient administrative service to all bereaved families following the death of a relative or loved one at Doncaster and Bassetlaw teaching Hospitals

It requires a dynamic individual who is able to support the medical professional team with the completion of paperwork and referrals required to eternal services.

The role requires someone with excellent communications skills, along with a calm, compassionate and professional manner to be able to liaise with other Bereavement Services which may include, the Medical Examiner Office, Coroner's Office, Police, Registry Office and Local Authority.

We are looking for a highly motivated, organised member of staff with excellent IT skills. The individual must have a positive attitude, with a flexible approach to work, along with the ability to manage a demanding caseload which sometimes may involve difficult and emotional situations.

Main duties of the job

To provide an empathic and efficient administrative service to all bereaved families following the death of a relative/loved one within Doncaster and Bassetlaw teaching Hospitals.

To ensure bereaved families receive a Medical Cause of Death Certificate (MCCD) or information of when a death has been referred to His Majesty's Coroner (HMC).

To ensure bereaved families receive a compassionate service and advice following the death of a relative or loved one which may incorporate signposting to other services available in the locality.

To offer support to the medical professional team with the completion of paperwork or referrals and to liaise professionally with other Bereavement Services which may include the Coroner's Office, Police, Registry Office, Local Authority, Mortuary Team and clinical areas local to the area.

To provide education to staff within the hospital about the service.
