Care Support Worker - MEOC Operating Theatres

Job summary

The Care Support Worker will be responsible for carrying out patient movement and general duties, including cleaning and other duties to support both the theatre and recovery team.

They will provide assistance to trained staff by the effective, prompt and competent undertaking of delegated duties which includes distribution of sterile instrumentation.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide a positive experience to our patients and their relatives at times of need. You will support patients in various ways such as:

  • Assist with patient care
  • Communication
  • Safeguarding
  • Cleanliness
  • Infection Control
  • Assist with the care of the patient undergoing spinal/epidural or regional anaesthesia.
  • Assist with the care of the patient in recovery

It's really important to consider that some aspects of healthcare work can be distressing and unpleasant. You will be expected to help patients with personal care without being embarrassed or feeling awkward. You will need to be able to communicate sympathetically with patients, and distressed relatives, and care for patients who are very sick.

We are recruiting for part time (minimum of 15 hours) position at Montague Mexborough hospital, Department MEOC,covering a variety of shift patterns, including a 24 hour, 7 day a week shift pattern (rotational shifts, with enhanced pay for weekends and nights).

Posts may involve working long days/nights, weekends, bank holidays, Easter and Christmas.

You will be required to complete the Care Certificate qualification as part of your on-going training. The Care Certificate is an agreed set of standards that define the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of specific job roles in the health and social care sectors. The qualification is made up of the 15 minimum standards that should be covered if you are 'new to care' and will form part of a robust induction programme
