Are you passionate about providing compassionate care and making a meaningful impact in patients' lives? We are looking to recruit Healthcare assistants in the specialised departments of Endoscopy and Eye Clinic
As a Healthcare Assistant, you will be responsible for providing the highest standard of individualised holistic patient care in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
Endoscopy is a highly skilled area within the Surgical unit; around 18 thousand procedures therapeutic and diagnostic procedures are performed throughout the three Endoscopy units. Knowledge of Endoscopy is essential, however full training will be provided. Previous Endoscopy experience would be a distinct advantage.
Endoscopy has three units: Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Bassetlaw Hospital and Montagu Hospital. This is a 7 day service and you will be required to rotate across all 3 sites.
What we are looking for:
Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant
Completion of the Care Certificate (or willing to complete within 3 months of starting)
Relevant healthcare qualification
Clinical skills and competencies specific to the department (if you lack these then you'll start as a Band 2 Trainee HCA, with progression to a Band 3 HCA upon completion of training).
Main duties of the job
Your key responsibilities
- Provide essential personal care.
- Monitor patients' conditions, including vital signs and NEWS (National Early Warning Scores).
- Support patients during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures. Whilst working as a second assistant in a procedure room. This will include taking simple gastric biopsies
- Support the nurse in preparing the procedure room prior to list commencing, between patients.
- Discharging patients and explaining post procedure care (under nursing supervision)
- Adhere to infection control measures at all times.
- Prepare the decontamination department for use daily. Follow procedures for cleaning and disinfecting endoscopes and accessories at all times.
- Perform daily/weekly testing within the decontamination department in line with national guidance standards
- Ensure that endoscopes held in the Storage cabinets are swabbed weekly and disinfected every 31 days if unused.
- Organise own workload to ensure the effective running of lists. Identify correct endoscopes for all lists are processed.
- Provide technical support to all members of the nursing team.
