Job summary

This post will suit candidates planning to get some useful Resident level experience in Vascular. This will give them a chance to improve clinical and surgical skills in and out of hours, which would place them in a good position to apply for FRCS exit examination, or should the candidate wish to pursue CESR. The department supports clinical research and has a good track record for international presentations and publications. There will be a requirement to participate in on-call rotas.

As a member of the Vascular team at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals, you will work as part of a team of consultants and Resident doctors to provide elective and emergency Vascular support to patients accessing the hospitals services across the three sites of Doncaster Royal Infirmary (DRI), Bassetlaw and Mexborough Montagu Hospitals.

You will balance independent Vascular working, based on experience and clinical competence, alongside clinical development under the supervision of the vascular consultants. You will have the opportunity to work in, and provide support during, outpatient clinics, day case operating theatres, main theatres and surgical wards along with doing on-call with vascular consultants.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be required to work across Trust sites. The duties will involve ward management of vascular patients, advice on in-patients under the care of other specialties and assessment of emergency admissions/ A&E patients and out of hours cover.

The post holder will provide:

Support during ward rounds and share responsibility of ward patients

Patient assessment

Discharge administration

Assessment of patients attending routine general vascular clinics

In-patient and day-case theatre lists

Attend MDT meetings

Support clinicians in operation environments

Provide cover during periods of holiday, study or sick leave.

Liaising with patients and families to discuss patient's progress, goals and achievable outcomes

Coordinating discharges with Multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs)

Being on call for vascular
