The successful candidate will provide a vital and dynamic team leading role for an excellent and high achieving coding team. The Trust has a reputation for consistently achieving targets and for high quality clinical coded data, which is achieved by providing excellent standards of training, mentoring and support for all team members.

As well as being a competent and experienced Clinical Coder, listed below are some of the other key skills that are essential:

  • Good Analytical and judgmental skills

  • A understanding of medical terminology, anatomical and physiological skills
  • In depth knowledge and experience in the use of the Coding Classifications ICD-10 5th Edition and OPCS-4.10

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Daily, co-ordinate and line manage a portfolio of specialties based Clinical Coding Teams, to ensure coding is completed to strict monthly deadlines and to set data quality standards, to secure Trust income under National Tariff.
  • Act as a lead and specialty advanced Clinical Coder within their Clinical Coding Team and beyond and will act as a Clinical Coding Advisor to the Business.
  • Be a specialist advisor and links to the Divisions ensuring that clinical coder/clinical linkage is effective and proactively developing key business relationships with Divisional Stakeholders.
  • Deputise for the Clinical Coding Service Manager, Assistant Clinical Coding Manager, Teams Leaders, and other Management roles, both within the Trust and representing externally when required.
  • Undertakes direct complex clinical coding workload to maintain Advanced Clinical Coder status and expertise.
  • Undertakes complex internal clinical coding audits for specialties and team members covered within their area of responsibility.
  • The post will be primarily based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary but will require operational working across all Trust sites.

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience of working as an Accredited Clinical Coding Officer

  • Experience of/contributing to service improvements and changes to policy and practice
