Job summary

The role involves performance of a range of patient and specimen reception, computer data entry, and laboratory duties in support of the quality service required by users. Participation in answering telephone enquiries and communicating patient's results. The post holder will provide support in the preparation and processing of clinical specimens at both Doncaster and Bassetlaw.

Main duties of the job

Book in receive and prepare samples in the laboratory under supervision of Biomedical Scientists. Ensure request forms and samples match with each other and information held in hospital and Lab Computer systems. Prepare specimens for processing by receiving, sorting, labelling and registering them into the laboratory computer system.

Undertake a range of duties within the laboratory under Biomedical Scientist supervision for example loading and unloading samples, phoning patient results and sample preparation.

Decontamination and disposal of pathology specimen waste, including operation of the autoclaves.

Greet patients delivering samples and ask appropriate questions to obtain required information.

Safe preparation and use of chemical reagents wearing appropriate personal protective equipment under observance of COSHH.

The Transformation Programme may include the consolidation of some services. Staff will be consulted about proposals that may involve them.
