The post is intended to provide the clinician with the support and training required to successfully complete all aspects of the CESR process.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
The successful candidate will contribute to emergency care across the Medicine Division and will work as a Specialty Doctor as part of the Emergency Department team with a full shift rota. The rota is calculated at either 8.5 + 1.5 Programmed Activities, 10 + 2 PAs or 5 + 1 PAs, with an average of 50% of the rota being out-of-hours.
We have forged close links between our Acute Medicine and Emergency Medicine Teams.
As part of the Consultant led team the successful candidate will provide shop floor input and leadership.
Key Duties Of The Post-
Managing a whole spectrum of emergency patients
- Assistance and supervision of the F1, F2 and GPST doctors with the management of patients.
- Strengthening the delivery of a high quality Emergency Medicine service across the hospital and community.
- Developing further links between Emergency medicine and acute medicine
- Developing innovative practices in clinical patient management, focusing on high quality care.
- Developing a subspecialty interest.
- Teaching and training undergraduates as well as postgraduates
- Quality assurance of the service and individual practice
Although the successful applicant may not initially have the competencies to manage the ED overnight, it is expected that during the post they will develop to take on this role.

About us
Our Trust is renowned for its training and support in this well-established programme. The Consultant body has current FCEM examiners as well as experience at the CESR application process. There will be a specifically designed training and teaching package for all successful applicants and there will be a designated Consultant supervisor for the duration of the rotation.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain his or her skills and up-date knowledge in accordance with Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development Guidance from the General Medical Council and the Royal Colleges to facilitate revalidation. This includes a mandatory annual appraisal which forms part of the job planning process.
Additionally, the candidate will be helped to collect patient feedback, undergo multi-source feedback (MSF), maintain CPD and participate in the quality assurance activity as described in Good Medical Practice (GMC)
The successful candidate will be involved in teaching medical students and training junior medical and nursing staff.

- MBBS or equivalent
- Valid Advanced Life Support (ALS), Emergency Paediatric Life Support (EPLS)
- Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty, or equivalent experience and competencies
- Must have or be eligible for full registration with the General Medical Council at time of appointment and continue to hold a License to Practise.
