This is an exciting opportunity to join our well established Band 5 rotation. The successful candidates will join the Band 5 Rotation, which gives the opportunity to gain experience in a number of specialist areas.
The ability to work flexibly, over 7 days is essential. Applications open to Occupational Therapy graduates, final year students or return to practice candidates with or working towards HCPC registration.

There will be a requirement to work across all sites, DRI, Bassetlaw Hospital and Montagu Hospital Mexborough. The rotations include Acute Medicine and Surgery, Orthopaedics, Acute and Rehabilitation Stroke Services, Paediatrics, Integrated discharge team/A&E and General and Stroke Rehabilitation at Montagu Hospital. We are currently joining our Band 5 Rotation with the RDaSH Trust, in addition to the rotations avibale at DBTH, there will be the opportunity to access their rotations which include Long term conditions (Community Hub), Enhanced Care home team, Stroke outreach, Neurology rehab, Mental health and Inpatient general Rehab.
Main duties of the job
- To assist in the organisation and provision of occupational therapy services through participation in a 6 monthly rotation scheme at Band 5 level working across hospital sites in a range of specialist areas.
- Providing occupational therapy assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of interventions in a variety of clinical areas using evidence based practice and patient-centred principles

Clinical:
- To manage own clinical caseload of patients with a variety of needs and complexities.
- To carryout a range of assessments simple and complex on patients referred to Occupational Therapy, considering their physical, psychological and functional abilities.
- To plan and implement treatment programmes with clearly established patient-centred goals and objectives, taking into consideration the patient understanding of this in line with the Trust Consent Policy.
- To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment to ensure effective interventions.
- To ensure assessment/treatment is carried out in the most appropriate environment, organising and implementing access visits and home visits as part of their treatment programme.
- To assess for and issue a range of simple and complex activities of daily living equipment, referring patients to external services for adaptations or specialised equipment as necessary.
- To be responsible for the training of relatives/carers in the safe use of simple and complex equipment (e.g. manual hoists).
- To liaise with out of area agencies to ensure safe discharge for patients e.g. other social services departments or hospitals.
- To refer patients to other professionals or internal/external agencies as appropriate.
Communication:
- To use a range of communication methods to communicate effectively with patients to progress treatment and rehabilitation programmes and overcome any barriers to communication
- To establish and maintain sound communication networks with carers/relatives, multi-disciplinary team members, occupational therapy colleagues and other agencies/ professionals within social and health settings.
- To develop effective communication strategies with the Multi-disciplinary Team and external agencies to ensure safe timely and appropriate patient discharge from hospital.

- To ensure that accurate concise and contemporaneous written and electronic records and patient activity data is maintained in accordance with professional and trust policies and standards.

- To provide written assessment reports for internal and external agencies to facilitate patient-centred care when required.
Leadership Supervision and Appraisal:
- To review and reflect on own practice and performance through effective use of professional supervision.
- To undertake 6 monthly Performance Development Appraisal with supervising Senior Occupational Therapist.
- To contribute to the support and supervision of support workers when required.
Continuing Professional development:
- To develop skills and knowledge through participation in the Band 5 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme, supervision and competencies as outlined by team.
- To participate in the induction, training and education and support and supervision of students on placement.
- To be involved with training of staff and students of other disciplines as required.
Service Development and Delivery:
- To attend and participate in all team and departmental meetings.
