Job summary

A multi-faceted network administration and support role working within the team to provide support for the on-going management and development of the Hospitals Network, Working within the Infrastructure Network Team, the role requires systems management, administration and support for all aspects of the network used throughout the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals.

This is very much both a technical and customer services role requiring development, planning and technical support (both proactive and reactive) skills. It will involve daily liaison with customers and third-party maintainers as well as supporting and maintaining the Informatics departments systems and supporting other senior infrastructure services. The role will involve providing technical guidance in a wide range of specialist systems to technical and non-technical staff.

The role is responsible for ensuring effective monitoring of a wide range of Network and telephony systems whilst ensuring a high level of system stability and uptime

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated and energetic networks and telephony engineer.

The successful candidate will assist the Network Team in the administration, maintenance, support, development, performance and security of the trusts computer network and telephony infrastructure. In addition the role includes planning and implementing upgrades to the Trust's network environment to meet current and future needs.

Knowledge and experience across a range of IT Networking technologies is a prerequisite, including Ethernet, TCP/IP, Cisco Core, Extreme Wireless Networking, Cisco Firepower, switches, WLANS, VLANS, RADIUS, Monitoring & configuration tools - e.g. SolarWinds, software/firmware upgrades, VOIP technologies and standards based Video Conferencing including SIP and H323.

Strong documentation skills and the ability to mentor and train other members of the infrastructure team are also key components of the role.

Job responsibilities

  • Support of network infrastructure equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex network, telephony and video conferencing incidents
  • Monitoring of network performance and capacity
  • To monitor and respond to network and telephony faults and outages
  • To ensure suitable controls and procedures are in place to backup all network configurations
  • To maintain up-to-date information relating to the network infrastructure, including diagrams and relevant documentation

  • Will need to be flexible and adjust work schedules in order to meet departmental, Trust and customer requirements
