Job summary

Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Division of Surgery are seeking enthusiastic and dynamic Endoscopists (Consultant/Specialist Doctor or Nurse Endoscopist).

This role will be part of a multidisciplinary recruitment process. You willbe working closely with an existing team of Nurse Endoscopists, Consultant Gastroenterologists and GI Surgical Consultants.

As a JAG accredited Endoscopist you will be working at full capacity (6 sessions per week) and todeliver full diagnostic endoscopy (both upper and lower) across all sites.

Over time there will be opportunity to develop a specialist interest such as GI bleed or advanced polypectomy/therapeutics but initially they will be delivering a diagnostic service.

The recruitment of additional Endoscopists will enhance our workforce and allow for more flexible working to cover endoscopy lists and deliver RTT and cancer targets.

You will be expected to provide high standards of care and achieve national targets to meet service needs and ensure JAG accreditation.

Main duties of the job

  • Work closely with the Lead Endoscopy Nurse and Lead UGI & Colorectal Specialist Practitioner in the development of new services/initiatives.
  • Act as a role model, employ professional behaviour that encourages and coaches others to their current competencies, whilst seeking opportunities to enhance their roles.
  • Ensure processes are in place to facilitate effective communication being established with all disciplines, patients and relatives, that meets individual needs.
  • Provide highly skilled endoscopy ensuring interventions are undertaken in line with best practice guidance.
  • Ensuring your own and others clinical practice is patient centred and evidence based in accordance with the NMC Code of Practice & other professional codes and standards.
  • Monitoring and maintaining high standards of documentation and record keeping in line with the NMC Standard for Record Keeping, having systems and processes in place for daily checking and challenging any inaccuracies or omissions.
  • At all times adhering to and ensuring adherence to Trust policies and procedures.

  • Scope roles relevant to speciality - venepuncture and cannulation
  • Ability to provide relevant advice to junior nurses and Doctors on a variety of management and clinical issues
  • Demonstrates specialist expertise underpinned by theory
  • JAG accreditation in diagnostic colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and Upper GI Endoscopy

Desirable

  • Experience in GRS and JETS
  • Experience of research and audit
  • Presentation skills to variety of audiences
