Job summary

Our Paediatric Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) provide some of the most personal and fundamental support to our patients so if you are kind, compassionate and you always act in the best interests of others, then we want to hear from you.

Here at Doncaster and Bassetlaw, we are looking for Trained Healthcare Assistants with paediatric experience to join our team. We have vacancy across at both our sites in our children's areas.

Once the post has closed, if you are shortlisted, we will require you to provide evidence of your qualification certificates prior to being invited to attend a recruitment event on 24th July at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. Please note this event is by invite only.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside children's nurses, nursing associates and other healthcare professionals to provide a positive experience to our patients and their relatives at times of need. You will support patients in various ways such as:

  • Providing personal cares such as; washing, dressing and toileting
  • Maintaining a clean and comfortable environment
  • Serving patients meals/assisting with feeding
  • Assisting with the play and distraction needs of children and young people
  • Monitoring patients' conditions by undertaking clinical observations such as temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight using the paediatric advanced warning score (PAWS)
  • Performing clinical skills such as enteral feeding and blood taking, training will be provided

It's really important to consider that some aspects of healthcare work can be distressing and unpleasant. You will need to be able to communicate sympathetically with patients, and distressed relatives, and care for patients who are very sick.

Patient Care

  • Assist with the care of the patient's physical and personal needs, ensuring a high standard of care is achieved.

  • Maintain patient/client confidentiality at all times as per Trust policies and NMC Guidelines.

  • Be aware of and implement Trust policies and procedures relevant to the post.
  • Assist in the identification of areas of risk and work towards minimising them.
