Job summary
This advertisement is for any college leavers of Summer 2023 who will have a Health and Social Care level 2 or 3 qualification. Applications are invited from students who are predicted to successfully achieve their certificate, and must also be aged 18 year or above (or will be 18 before commencing in post).
Our Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) provide some of the most personal and fundamental support to our patients so if you are kind, compassionate and you always act in the best interests of others, then we want to hear from you.
Here at Doncaster, we are looking for all levels of Healthcare Assistant, these are:
- In Training HCA - (Has the qualification but no clinical work experience in the role)
- Trained - (Has the qualification and clinical work experience in the role)

Main duties of the job
You will work alongside nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide a positive experience to our patients and their relatives at times of need. You will support patients in various ways such as:
- washing and dressing
- toileting
- bed making
- serving patients meals/assisting with feeding
- helping people to mobilise
- assisting with patients' overall comfort
- monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight - national early warning scores (NEWS)
- providing encouragement to lifestyle and behaviour changes
It's really important to consider that some aspects of healthcare work can be distressing and unpleasant. You will be expected to help patients with personal care without being embarrassed or feeling awkward. You will need to be able to communicate sympathetically with patients, and distressed relatives, and care for patients who are very sick.

Patient Care
Assist with the care of the patient's physical and personal needs, ensuring a high standard of care is achieved.Assist nurses in the care of pressure areas and the prevention of pressure sores, using recognised tools of assessment.Assist with the patient's basic hygiene needs.Understand the recognised tools to assess care needs.Assist patients to meet their individual elimination needs.Assist patients to mobilise safely, including the correct use of various aids available.Chaperone patients while undergoing medical examination and various procedures.Escort appropriate patients to other wards/departments within the hospital.Assist in the care of the terminally ill, providing sensitive support for the patient and their families.Assist with last offices.Maintain a safe, tidy and clean environment for staff, patients and relatives.Assist with simple aseptic techniques.Assist the patient during the administration of medicines.Record the patient's vital sign observations as delegated by the accountable nurse and report findings as instructed.Report the patient's blood glucose results as delegated by the accountable nurse, report findings as instructed and following the Trust's policy and procedure in this regard.Collect non-invasive specimens and test specimens as appropriate.Assist with admission and timely discharge of patients.Assist the patient to meet their individual religions, spiritual and cultural needs.Maintain the patient's rights as an individual.

- Maintain patient/client confidentiality at all times as per Trust policies and NMC Guidelines.
- Participate in Quality Groups within the Division.
- Be aware of and implement Trust policies and procedures relevant to the post.
- Assist in the identification of areas of risk and work towards minimising them.
- Be aware of personal responsibilities as defined in the Health & Safety at Work Act.

We are recruiting for full time & part time(minimum of 15 hours) positions across our three hospital sites, covering a variety of shift patterns, including a 24 hour, 7 day a week shift pattern (rotational shifts, with enhanced pay for weekends and nights).
Posts may involve working long days/nights, weekends, bank holidays, Easter and Christmas and this would be explained and negotiated at interview or on successful appointment
We have positions available in a variety of areas and will consider your preference and previous experience when allocating to you into a vacant position.
